Tatra, or Tatras or the Tatra Mountains is a mountain range that acts a natural boundary between Slovakia and Poland. This mountain range occupies 750 square kilometers and almost 600 square kilometers of this lies in Slovakia. The highest peak of the Tatra range is Gerlachovsky stit at 2499m in Slovakia and Rysy, at 2499m, is the highest peak in Poland. Although the Tatra is smaller than the Alps, they do have an alpine landscape and are immensely accessible making them very popular with adventure seekers and scientists.
The Tatras consist of:
Western Tatras (Slovak: Zapadnae Tatry, Polish: Tatry Zachodnie)
Eastern Tatras (Vychodne Tatry, Tatry Wschodnie), which consists of: High Tatras (Vysoke Tatry, Tatry Wysokie) and Belianske Tatras (Belianske Tatry, Tatry Bielskie).
